Driving Lessons

Pickup

A driving lesson normally starts and finishes at the pupils home address unless arranged otherwise with the driving instructor. Lessons can also start and finish at the Meadowlands Shopping Plaza car park opposite the AA.

Duration

A driving lesson normally lasts for an hour. This is the optimum period where the most learning takes place. 1 1/2 hour lessons are also available on request if the need arises. Lesson duration for intensive courses is usually between 1 1/2 and 2 hours. For pupils living in the Maraetai or Beachlands locations who need picking up at the home address a 1 1/2 or 2 hour lesson may be advisable to allow for travel time to the Meadowlands training area.

Training area

The majority of the training will take place around the Howick and surrounding areas such as Dannemora, Botany, Meadowlands and Highbrook (East Tamaki) etc in preparation for the restricted and full licence driving tests.

Number of lessons

A frequently asked question is, 'How many lessons will I need?'
The number of lessons required varies from pupil to pupil. A complete beginner may require about 20 lessons whereas a pupil with some experience may only require between 5 and 10 lessons. The NZTA recommends that a person undertakes around 120 hours driving before taking their restricted licence test.
