Driving test routes
Highbrook (East Tamaki)
There are at least two driving test routes used at Highbrook for the restricted licence test. The purpose of this article is not to disclose exactly the whereabouts of every intersection or roundabout etc. It is just to give you a rough idea of where you will be going.
Route 1
stage 1
This starts at the VTNZ car park on Cryers road. The driving takes place mainly around the Highbrook business park / East Tamaki area. This is an industrial area and a 50 k speed limit applies. You will drive around some fairly wide streets and will likely have to negotiate a number of large work trucks. Give them plenty of room!! This is when you will carry out your parallel Park. There are no Stop signs or roundabouts on this stage.
Stage 2
The route now becomes a bit more demanding with multi-laned roads, merge lanes and faster roads. There are a couple of quiet roundabouts to negotiate around Redcastle Drive. You will then be expected to drive upto 80 k if possible on the Te Irirangi drive where you will encounter some traffic lights. You will also have T intersections with flush medians to negotiate. Then it's back to the VTNZ via Harris road.
Route 2
Stage 1
This starts at the VTNZ car park on Cryers road. The driving takes place mainly around the Highbrook business park / East Tamaki area. Remember this is an industrial area and a 50 k speed limit applies. You will likely have to negotiate a number of trucks so give them room!!
Stage 2
The route again becomes a bit more demanding with multi-laned roads, merge lanes and faster roads.There will also be T intersections with flush medians and a couple of roundabouts near Kerwyn Av. The route then takes you along Highbrook Drive which starts of as a 70 k road and then slows down to 50 k. So be careful not to miss the 50 k sign!. Then there is some lane changing to be done on Harris road along with traffic lights and a flush median. Then back to the test centre.
Both routes finish back at the car park.
